James R. Campbell (Illinois politician)
James R. Campbell (1853 – 1924) was an American politician who served as a U.S. Representative from Illinois.
Born near McLeansboro, Illinois, Campbell attended the common schools and Ewing College. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1879, commencing practice in McLeansboro. He served as a member of the Illinois House of Representatives from 1884 to 1888. He was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1892.
Campbell was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-third Congress (March 4, 1893 – March 3, 1895). He was not a candidate for renomination in 1894. After his term in Congress, he resumed the practice of law in McLeansboro.
He died in McLeansboro, Illinois, on December 23, 1924, and was interred in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
