Islands (miniseries)
Islands is a six-part nature documentary television series produced by the BBC Natural History Unit. Narrated by David Attenborough, it was first broadcast in the United Kingdom on BBC One in January 2012. The series explores the unique biodiversity and evolutionary processes that occur on islands around the world, focusing on both remote and well-known island ecosystems. Each episode highlights different geographical regions and examines the challenges faced by the plants and animals that inhabit these isolated environments. The series covers topics such as island gigantism, dwarfism, and the vulnerability of island species to introduced predators and habitat loss. Specific islands and island chains featured include Madagascar, Borneo, Hawaii, the Galapagos Islands, and the Caribbean. Islands aims to showcase the beauty and ecological importance of islands as biodiversity hotspots and laboratories of evolution.
