Islamic Republican (newspaper)

Islamic Republican was a Persian-language daily newspaper published in Iran from 1979 to 1991. It served as the official organ of the Islamic Republican Party (IRP), the dominant political party in Iran during the early years of the Islamic Revolution.

The newspaper was founded shortly after the revolution, with its first issue appearing in June 1979. Its primary purpose was to propagate the ideology of the Islamic Revolution, defend the policies of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and the IRP, and mobilize public support for the new Islamic Republic.

Islamic Republican played a significant role in shaping public opinion and disseminating information during a turbulent period in Iranian history, which included the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988). It frequently featured articles on political, social, economic, and cultural issues, all interpreted through the lens of Islamic revolutionary principles. The paper often presented viewpoints critical of Western powers and promoted the concept of Islamic unity.

Following the dissolution of the Islamic Republican Party in 1987, Islamic Republican continued to be published for several more years before eventually ceasing publication in 1991. Its archives offer a valuable resource for researchers studying the early years of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the evolution of its political discourse.
