Hurricane Paine (1986)
Hurricane Paine was a late-season tropical cyclone in the Eastern Pacific Ocean during the 1986 hurricane season. It formed from a tropical disturbance south of Mexico on October 15, 1986. Paine moved generally west-northwestward, intensifying into a tropical storm on October 16th and a hurricane on October 17th. Paine reached its peak intensity as a Category 1 hurricane with sustained winds of 75 mph (120 km/h) and a minimum central pressure of 985 mbar.
After peaking, Hurricane Paine began to weaken as it moved over cooler waters and into an area of increasing wind shear. It was downgraded to a tropical storm on October 18th and further weakened to a tropical depression on October 19th. Paine eventually dissipated on October 20, 1986, well southwest of Baja California.
Paine never made landfall and posed no significant threat to populated areas. No damage or fatalities were reported as a result of the storm. The primary impact of Hurricane Paine was related to marine interests.
