Hurricane Lane (2006)

Hurricane Lane was a Category 1 hurricane that formed in the eastern Pacific Ocean during the 2006 hurricane season. It was the twelfth named storm and seventh hurricane of the season. Lane originated from a tropical wave that moved off the coast of Africa in mid-September. The wave gradually organized as it moved westward across the Atlantic and into the eastern Pacific.

Lane developed into a tropical depression on September 16th, and was upgraded to Tropical Storm Lane later that day. Strengthening continued, and Lane became a hurricane on September 17th. It reached its peak intensity with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph (140 km/h) and a minimum central pressure of 985 mbar.

After peaking, Hurricane Lane began to weaken due to increased wind shear and cooler sea surface temperatures. It was downgraded to a tropical storm on September 19th. Lane continued to weaken as it moved west-northwestward, eventually dissipating on September 21st, well east of Hawaii.

While Lane did not make landfall or directly impact any land areas, its remnants brought increased surf and rip currents to the Hawaiian Islands. No significant damage or fatalities were reported. The Central Pacific Hurricane Center (CPHC) closely monitored Lane's progress.
