Human Sexual Response (band)
Human Sexual Response was an American new wave band formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1978. The group, often abbreviated as HSR, consisted of Larry Bangor (vocals), Clea Smith (vocals), Windle Doyle (keyboards), Rich Gilbert (guitar), Malcolm Travis (drums), and Chris Maclachlan (bass).
Known for their energetic live performances, eclectic musical style, and unconventional lyrics, Human Sexual Response incorporated elements of punk rock, art rock, funk, and performance art into their sound. Their songs often dealt with themes of sexuality, identity, and social commentary, delivered with a theatrical and often humorous approach.
HSR released two studio albums, Fig. 14 (1981) and In a Roman Mood (1982), on Passport Records. While neither album achieved widespread mainstream success, they were critically acclaimed and gained a devoted following, particularly in the Boston area. "Jackie Onassis" and "Land of the Glass Pinecones" are among their best-known songs.
The band broke up in 1986, although they have reunited for occasional performances since then. Their music has continued to be influential, cited by various artists as an inspiration.
