Hong Chau
Hong Chau (born April 25, 1979) is an American actress. She is known for her performances in both film and television, often portraying complex and nuanced characters.
Chau gained significant recognition for her role as Audrey in Alexander Payne's 2017 film Downsizing, for which she received widespread critical acclaim and a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture.
Her other notable film credits include Inherent Vice (2014), The Menu (2022), and Showing Up (2022). She received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in The Whale (2022).
In television, Chau has appeared in series such as Treme (2011-2013), Big Little Lies (2017, 2019), Forever (2018), and Watchmen (2019), earning a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for the latter.
Chau was born in a refugee camp in Thailand after her parents fled Vietnam in the late 1970s. They immigrated to the United States and settled in New Orleans, Louisiana.
