Henriette Amalie of Anhalt-Dessau (1720–1793)
Henriette Amalie of Anhalt-Dessau (29 November 1720 – 5 December 1793) was a member of the House of Ascania and Princess-Abbess of Herford.
Born in Dessau, she was the seventh child and fifth daughter of Leopold I, Prince of Anhalt-Dessau, and Anna Louise Föhse. Her mother was not of princely lineage, a fact which initially presented obstacles, but she was eventually recognized as a suitable consort.
In 1751, Henriette Amalie was elected Princess-Abbess of Herford. Her tenure saw some improvements to the abbey's infrastructure and efforts to maintain its independent status. She remained in this position until her death in Herford in 1793. She never married and had no children. Her reign at Herford was generally considered stable and uneventful, though she faced the challenges of navigating the complex political landscape of the Holy Roman Empire.
