Hempholme
Hempholme is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) north of Market Weighton and lies to the east of the River Foulness. The parish includes the hamlet of Woodhall.
Historically, Hempholme was part of the Harthill Wapentake. The name "Hempholme" is believed to derive from Old English, combining "hemp" (the plant) and "holm" (a piece of dry land surrounded by marsh or water). This suggests the area was once known for hemp cultivation on land surrounded by marshland, characteristic of this part of the East Riding.
The village church is dedicated to St. Nicholas. The surrounding area is primarily agricultural.
