Hell in a Cell (2009)

Hell in a Cell (2009) was a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). It took place on October 4, 2009, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. It was the inaugural event under the Hell in a Cell chronology, replacing No Mercy in the October PPV slot. The event was themed around the Hell in a Cell match, featuring three such matches on the card.

The main event featured a Hell in a Cell match between DX (Triple H and Shawn Michaels) and The Legacy (Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase). Another prominent Hell in a Cell match saw Randy Orton challenge John Cena for the WWE Championship. The third Hell in a Cell match involved CM Punk defending the World Heavyweight Championship against The Undertaker.

Other matches on the card included a singles match between John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler for the WWE Intercontinental Championship, a Triple Threat match for the WWE United States Championship featuring The Miz defending against Kofi Kingston and Jack Swagger, a Divas Championship match between Mickie James and Alicia Fox, and a tag team match between Jeri-Show (Chris Jericho and The Big Show) and Batista & Rey Mysterio for the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship.

The event is notable for featuring all three of WWE's major championships being contested inside the Hell in a Cell structure.
