Heavenly Delusion (TV series)
Heavenly Delusion (Japanese: 天国大魔境, Hepburn: Tengoku Daimakyō, lit. "Heavenly Great Magical Realm") is a Japanese science fiction manga series written and illustrated by Masakazu Ishiguro. It is serialized in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine since January 2018, and has been collected in multiple tankōbon volumes.
An anime television series adaptation produced by Production I.G aired from April to July 2023. The series follows two separate storylines. One storyline concerns children living in a seemingly idyllic, technologically advanced facility isolated from the outside world. The other storyline follows two individuals, Maru and Kiruko, as they navigate a post-apocalyptic Japan ravaged by supernatural beings. Their journey is driven by Maru's search for "Heaven," a place that may offer clues to his origins and the state of the world.
The anime adaptation is directed by Hirotaka Mori, with scripts written by Makoto Fukami. Character designs are by Utsushita and the music is composed by Kensuke Ushio. The opening theme song is "innocent arrogance" by BiSH, and the ending theme song is "Dare mo Kare mo Doko mo Nani mo Shiranai" (誰も彼も何処も何も知らない, "Nobody Knows Anything About Anybody Anywhere") by ASOBI同盟 (ASOBI Doumei).
The series has received generally positive reviews, with praise for its intriguing plot, compelling characters, and atmospheric world-building. The animation quality and music score have also been commended. However, some criticism has been directed towards the pacing and the handling of certain narrative elements.
