Haslemere (UK Parliament constituency)
Haslemere was a parliamentary constituency in Surrey, England. It existed from 1885 to 1983.
Creation and Abolition:
The constituency was created in 1885 under the Redistribution of Seats Act 1885. It was abolished in 1983 as part of a wider restructuring of parliamentary constituencies following boundary reviews. The area formerly covered by Haslemere was largely absorbed into the South West Surrey constituency.
Boundaries:
The constituency's boundaries shifted slightly over time due to periodic boundary reviews. However, its core area encompassed the towns of Haslemere, Godalming (at various times), and the surrounding rural areas of southwestern Surrey. Its precise boundaries can be determined by consulting Ordnance Survey maps and reports from the Boundary Commission for England from the relevant periods.
Political History:
Haslemere was generally considered a safe Conservative seat throughout its existence. Prominent Conservative politicians represented the constituency.
