Harpo (singer)
Harpo (born Jan Svensson, 5 February 1950 – 19 January 2024) was a Swedish pop singer. He was best known for his international hit single "Moviestar" in 1975.
Harpo began his musical career in local bands in the 1960s. He adopted the stage name "Harpo" from Harpo Marx. He signed with record label Polar Music in the early 1970s, releasing several singles that achieved success in Sweden.
"Moviestar," co-written with Bengt Palmers, became a major hit across Europe, reaching the top of the charts in several countries including Sweden, Norway, Germany, and Austria. The song's catchy melody and playful lyrics contributed to its widespread popularity.
While "Moviestar" remained his biggest hit internationally, Harpo continued to release music and tour throughout his career. He remained a popular figure in Sweden and other European countries, performing his classic hits and new material.
