HNLMS Van Galen (G84)

The HNLMS Van Galen (G84) was a destroyer of the N-class built for the Royal Navy during World War II, but operated by the Royal Netherlands Navy. Originally commissioned as HMS Noble, it was transferred to the Netherlands in 1942.

Van Galen served primarily in the Atlantic and Mediterranean theaters. It was involved in convoy escort duties, protecting merchant shipping from U-boat attacks. The ship participated in various operations, including Operation Torch, the Allied landings in North Africa, and later served in the Far East.

After the war, Van Galen remained in service with the Royal Netherlands Navy. In the 1950s, it underwent modernization and was reclassified as a frigate. The ship was eventually decommissioned and scrapped.
