HMS Tweed (K250)

HMS Tweed (K250) was a River-class frigate of the Royal Navy. Built by Blyth Shipbuilding Company, she was launched on 27 July 1942 and commissioned on 15 January 1943.

During World War II, HMS Tweed served primarily as a convoy escort in the Atlantic. Her duties included protecting merchant ships from attack by German U-boats. She was sunk on 7 January 1945 in the English Channel, near Trevose Head, Cornwall, by the German submarine U-482. There were approximately 58 survivors and 54 men lost, including her captain.

HMS Tweed's service life, though relatively short, was representative of the vital role played by River-class frigates in the Battle of the Atlantic. She was named after the River Tweed, a river that forms part of the border between England and Scotland.
