HMS Nith
HMS Nith was a River-class frigate of the Royal Navy. Launched in 1943, she served during the Second World War, primarily on convoy escort duties in the North Atlantic.
After the war, HMS Nith was involved in training exercises and fleet maneuvers. She was eventually sold to Portugal in 1959 and renamed NRP Pedro Escobar. As NRP Pedro Escobar, she continued to serve in the Portuguese Navy for several decades before being decommissioned and eventually scrapped.
River-class frigates, like HMS Nith, were designed as anti-submarine warfare vessels, equipped with radar, sonar, and depth charge weaponry. They played a vital role in protecting convoys from German U-boats during the Battle of the Atlantic.
The name "Nith" refers to the River Nith in Scotland.
