HMS Harwich (1674)

HMS Harwich was a 70-gun third-rate ship of the line of the English Royal Navy, later the British Royal Navy. She was launched in 1674 from Harwich Dockyard.

Harwich participated in a number of significant naval engagements. Notably, she saw action during the Battle of Beachy Head in 1690. Her service spanned several decades and multiple conflicts, reflecting a typical lifespan for a warship of that era.

In 1706, Harwich was rebuilt at Woolwich Dockyard according to the 1706 Establishment. This rebuild essentially made her a new vessel, although she retained her original name and designation.

The Harwich was eventually sold out of the navy in 1731. Her career is representative of the type of large, powerful warships that formed the backbone of the English and British navies during the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
