HMS E8
HMS E8 was a British E-class submarine built by Vickers at Barrow-in-Furness. She was launched on 30 June 1914 and commissioned on 16 October 1914. HMS E8 is notable for her service during World War I in the Baltic Sea.
After entering the Baltic, E8 played a significant role in disrupting German naval operations. She sank several German ships, including the German destroyer SMS S126 and the transport ship Deutschland. These actions contributed to Allied naval efforts in the Eastern Front.
In 1915, E8 was damaged by a German torpedo and later grounded on the Swedish coast in November of the same year, attempting to avoid further attacks. She was subsequently scuttled by her crew on 5 November 1915 to prevent her capture by German forces. The crew were interned by Sweden.
The wreck of HMS E8 remains in the Baltic Sea.
