Great White (1981 film)
Great White, also known as The Last Shark, is an Italian horror film released in 1981, directed by Enzo G. Castellari. The film garnered significant notoriety due to its blatant similarities to Steven Spielberg's Jaws (1975), leading to a successful lawsuit by Universal Pictures that resulted in the film being pulled from theaters in the United States shortly after its release.
The plot revolves around a giant great white shark terrorizing a coastal resort town during a windsurfing competition. A professional shark hunter, a marine biologist, and a local fisherman team up to stop the creature before it causes further death and destruction. The film featured special effects that were considered graphic and controversial for the time. The main actors include James Franciscus, Vic Morrow, and Micaela Pignatelli. Despite its controversial reception, Great White became a box office success in several European markets.
