Glumini

Glumini is a taxonomic subtribe within the tribe Anthracotheriini, which is itself within the extinct artiodactyl family Anthracotheriidae. Anthracotheriidae are sometimes referred to as "hippo-like pigs" due to some superficial similarities to modern hippopotamuses, though they are not directly ancestral to them.

Glumini includes various genera of anthracotheres, typically characterized by specific dental and skeletal features that distinguish them from other Anthracotheriini subtribes, such as Anthracotheriina and Microbunodontina. Defining characteristics can include details of molar cusp patterns and premolar morphology, as well as postcranial features relating to their adaptation to semi-aquatic or terrestrial lifestyles.

Fossil evidence of Glumini has been found primarily in Asia, especially in regions of present-day China, Pakistan, and Thailand. These fossils provide valuable insights into the evolution and biogeography of anthracotheres during the Eocene, Oligocene, and Miocene epochs.

The evolutionary relationships within Glumini and between Glumini and other anthracothere groups are still areas of active research and debate among paleontologists. Phylogenetic analyses, incorporating both morphological and, when available, molecular data, are used to refine our understanding of their relationships.
