Gerald McCarthy (footballer)

Gerald McCarthy is a former Gaelic footballer who played for the Cork senior team. He is considered one of the greatest Gaelic football players of all time, primarily known for his skill as a defender.

McCarthy played his club football for St Finbarr's in Cork.

On the inter-county stage, McCarthy was a key member of the Cork team that dominated Gaelic football in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He won two All-Ireland Senior Football Championship medals in 1989 and 1990, captaining the team to victory in 1990. He also won four Munster Senior Football Championship medals and three National Football League titles.

Individually, McCarthy received numerous accolades, including multiple All-Star awards. He is remembered for his strength, athleticism, and leadership qualities on the field.

Following his playing career, McCarthy has been involved in coaching at both club and inter-county levels.
