George Kunkel (politician)

George Kunkel (born March 22, 1842, died May 19, 1922) was a Republican politician from Pennsylvania. He served as a U.S. Representative for Pennsylvania's 14th congressional district from 1889 to 1891, and again for Pennsylvania's 18th congressional district from 1897 to 1901.

Born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Kunkel attended Harrisburg Academy and Yale College, graduating in 1861. He then studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1863, commencing practice in Harrisburg.

He served in the Pennsylvania State Senate from 1872 to 1878. He was elected to the Fifty-first Congress in 1888. After an unsuccessful bid for reelection in 1890, Kunkel resumed the practice of law. He was later elected to the Fifty-fifth and Fifty-sixth Congresses, serving from 1897 to 1901. Following his time in Congress, he returned to his legal practice in Harrisburg until his death. He is interred in Harrisburg Cemetery.
