Geauga Lake (lake)

Geauga Lake is a freshwater lake located in Geauga County, Ohio, USA. Historically known as Pickerel Pond, it was renamed Geauga Lake in 1872. The lake is approximately 85 acres in size and is a kettle lake, formed by glacial activity during the last ice age. It is fed by groundwater and local runoff.

The lake's primary significance historically lies in its association with the Geauga Lake amusement park, which operated on its shores from 1887 until 2007. The park, in its various iterations (including SeaWorld Ohio and Six Flags Ohio), utilized the lake for attractions such as water ski shows, boat rides, and other water-based entertainment.

Today, Geauga Lake is primarily a residential area. While public access to the lake itself may be limited depending on surrounding property ownership, the lake retains its historical significance as a focal point of recreational activity in Northeast Ohio. The name "Geauga" is derived from a Native American word meaning "raccoon."
