Fundina

Fundina (plural: fundinae) is a Latin term referring to a pouch or sling used as a weapon to hurl projectiles, typically stones or lead bullets (glandes). It's smaller than a funda, another Latin word for sling, and often associated with slings used by shepherds or for hunting smaller game. While funda often describes a larger, more powerful sling utilized in warfare, fundina implies a smaller, perhaps more informal or personal weapon. The distinction, however, isn't always strictly maintained in ancient texts, and the terms can sometimes be used interchangeably. The fundina would have been constructed from materials such as leather, cloth, or plant fibers. Skilled users could achieve considerable range and accuracy with a fundina, making it a relatively inexpensive and readily available weapon.
