Frozen (musical)

Frozen is a stage musical adaptation of the 2013 Disney animated film of the same name. The musical features music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, and a book by Jennifer Lee, who also wrote and co-directed the film.

The story centers on the relationship between two sisters, Elsa and Anna, princesses of Arendelle. Elsa possesses magical powers that allow her to control ice and snow. Following a childhood accident where Elsa accidentally injures Anna with her powers, Elsa is forced to isolate herself to protect her sister and her kingdom. Years later, at Elsa's coronation, her powers are accidentally revealed, causing her to flee Arendelle and plunge the kingdom into an eternal winter. Anna embarks on a journey to find Elsa and reverse the effects of the winter, accompanied by Kristoff, an ice harvester; his reindeer Sven; and Olaf, a sentient snowman.

The musical expands upon the film's plot, adding new songs and scenes that delve deeper into the characters' motivations and relationships. It explores themes of sisterhood, fear, acceptance, and the power of love.

Frozen premiered in a pre-Broadway tryout in Denver, Colorado, in August 2017. It officially opened on Broadway at the St. James Theatre in March 2018 and played until March 2020, when Broadway theaters were shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The show did not reopen. It has since spawned touring productions and international stagings, including productions in London's West End, Australia, and Japan, among others. The musical received mixed to positive reviews, with praise for its visual spectacle, performances, and expansion of the original story, but also criticism for its pacing and some of the new songs.
