From Here to Eternity (miniseries)
From Here to Eternity refers to two separate miniseries adaptations of James Jones's acclaimed 1951 novel of the same name. Both miniseries followed the storyline of the novel, depicting the lives and relationships of soldiers stationed in Hawaii in the months leading up to the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The first miniseries, titled From Here to Eternity, aired in 1979 on NBC. It starred William Devane as Sergeant Milton Warden, Natalie Wood as Karen Holmes, and Steve Railsback as Private Robert E. Lee Prewitt. This miniseries was a significant television event and received generally positive reviews, becoming a popular adaptation of the source material.
A second miniseries, also titled From Here to Eternity, aired in 1980 on NBC, serving as a sequel. This continuation, sometimes referred to as From Here to Eternity: The War Years, follows the characters after the attack on Pearl Harbor and into the Pacific Theatre during World War II. William Devane reprised his role as Sergeant Warden. This sequel miniseries received less critical acclaim than its predecessor.
