Frank Russell (baseball)
Frank Russell (born May 28, 1949) is a former professional baseball shortstop. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Los Angeles Dodgers (1972-1976) and Chicago Cubs (1977-1978).
Russell was drafted by the Dodgers in the first round (17th overall) of the 1967 MLB draft. He was known as a solid defensive player, particularly at shortstop. While not a power hitter, he was a reliable contact hitter and baserunner.
Russell's most productive season came in 1974, when he played in 144 games for the Dodgers, hitting .258 with 2 home runs and 29 RBIs. He was a member of the Dodgers team that won the National League pennant in 1974, losing to the Oakland Athletics in the World Series.
After his playing career, Russell worked as a coach and instructor.
