Edward Stopford (bishop)
Edward Stopford (1813 – 1906) was an Anglican bishop in the Church of Ireland.
Born in 1813, Stopford was educated at Trinity College, Dublin. He was ordained a deacon in 1836 and a priest in 1837. His early career was spent in parish ministry, serving as the rector of Kells, County Meath from 1848 to 1867, and as the Archdeacon of Meath from 1865 to 1868.
In 1868, Stopford was elected Bishop of Meath, a position he held until his resignation in 1894. He was consecrated on 29 September 1868. During his time as bishop, he was known for his advocacy for religious education and his efforts to promote unity among the various religious denominations in Ireland. He was also involved in the revision of the Irish Book of Common Prayer.
Stopford retired in 1894 and died in 1906.
