Famara

Famara is a coastal village and beach located on the northwest coast of the island of Lanzarote, part of the Canary Islands, Spain. It is situated within the municipality of Teguise.

Famara is known for its long, sandy beach, Playa de Famara, which stretches for over six kilometers. This beach is a popular spot for surfing, kitesurfing, and windsurfing due to consistent winds and waves. The strong currents also make it suitable for experienced water sports enthusiasts.

The village itself is relatively small, with a mix of residential buildings, restaurants, and surf schools catering to both locals and tourists. The backdrop to Famara is the imposing Risco de Famara, a dramatic cliff face that provides a striking landscape and shelter from some winds.

Historically, Famara was a small fishing village. While fishing remains a part of the local culture, tourism, particularly related to water sports, is now the primary economic driver. The area is also part of the Chinijo Archipelago Natural Park, which protects the surrounding marine and terrestrial environment. This protected status helps to maintain the natural beauty and ecological integrity of the region.
