Edgar Laplante
Edgar Laplante (1888-1944) was a Canadian artist known primarily for his creation of unusual and intricate wood marquetry, particularly using rare hardwoods and exotic materials. He was born in Quebec, Canada. Laplante gained prominence in the United States, especially in the 1920s and 1930s, for his elaborate decorative panels and furniture pieces. His work is characterized by detailed scenes, often inspired by historical events, mythology, or landscapes. He frequently incorporated ivory, mother-of-pearl, and other luxury materials into his creations. Although initially gaining recognition and commissions from wealthy patrons, Laplante experienced financial difficulties later in his life. His work is now considered collectible and is held in various private collections.
