Ed Edmondson (politician)
Ed Edmondson (1919 – 1990) was an American politician who served as a U.S. Representative from Oklahoma. A member of the Democratic Party, he represented Oklahoma's 2nd congressional district from 1953 to 1973.
Born James Howard Edmondson Jr. in Muskogee, Oklahoma, he was known as "Ed" throughout his life. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma and served in the United States Army during World War II. He earned a law degree from Georgetown University after the war.
Edmondson was first elected to Congress in a special election in 1953 following the death of Representative William G. Stigler. He was subsequently re-elected nine times. During his tenure in Congress, he served on the House Interior and Insular Affairs Committee and the House Committee on Public Works. He was generally considered a conservative Democrat.
Edmondson did not seek re-election in 1972, instead unsuccessfully running for the United States Senate. He was defeated in the Democratic primary by Ed Berrong. Following his departure from Congress, Edmondson practiced law in Washington, D.C. He died in 1990.
