Doug Rogers (judoka)
Doug Rogers (1941-2020) was a Canadian judoka who competed in the heavyweight division. He is best known for winning a silver medal at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. This was Canada's first-ever Olympic medal in judo.
Born in Truax, Saskatchewan, Rogers began training in judo at a young age. He quickly rose through the ranks, winning several national championships. He was selected to represent Canada at the 1964 Olympics, where he faced formidable opponents including Isao Inokuma of Japan in the final. Despite a strong performance, Rogers lost to Inokuma by decision, securing the silver medal.
