Devolved (band)
Devolved is an Australian technical death metal band formed in 2003 in Brisbane, Queensland. The band is known for its complex and brutal songwriting, characterized by fast tempos, intricate riffs, blast beats, and guttural vocals.
History
Devolved was founded by drummer Liam Kriz and guitarist Mark Hawkins. After several lineup changes, the band stabilized with the addition of vocalist Jacob Hansen and bassist John Berry. They released their debut EP, Arrival, in 2005.
Their first full-length album, Calculated, was released in 2007 and received positive reviews within the technical death metal community. It showcased their technical prowess and aggressive sound. Following the release of Calculated, Devolved toured both nationally and internationally, building a strong following.
In 2011, Devolved released their second album, Reprisal, which further refined their sound and expanded upon their technical capabilities. Reprisal was also well-received, cementing their position as a prominent act in the Australian metal scene.
After a period of relative inactivity and further lineup adjustments, Devolved returned with their third album, Oblivion, released in 2018. Oblivion demonstrated a more mature and polished sound while retaining the core elements that define the band's style.
