Deccan Airways
Deccan Airways was one of the earliest airlines in India, established in 1945 and headquartered in Hyderabad. It was founded by Mir Osman Ali Khan, the Nizam of Hyderabad, in collaboration with Tata Airlines (later Air India). The airline played a significant role in connecting Hyderabad State with other major cities in India during the pre-independence and early post-independence era.
Deccan Airways operated primarily domestic routes, utilizing aircraft such as the Douglas DC-3 Dakota. Its network connected Hyderabad to cities like Delhi, Bombay (now Mumbai), Madras (now Chennai), and Bangalore.
Following India's independence in 1947 and the subsequent integration of Hyderabad State into India in 1948, Deccan Airways underwent a transformation. In 1953, as part of the Indian government's nationalization of the airline industry, Deccan Airways was merged with several other domestic airlines to form Indian Airlines Corporation. The assets and operations of Deccan Airways were absorbed into the newly formed national carrier, effectively ending its independent existence. Thus, Deccan Airways ceased to exist as a separate entity after the nationalization.
