Dalnavert

Dalnavert is a historic house museum located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It is a well-preserved example of Victorian architecture and provides insight into the life of a prominent Victorian family in the late 19th century.

History:

Dalnavert was built in 1895 for Sir Hugh John Macdonald, son of Canada's first Prime Minister, Sir John A. Macdonald. Sir Hugh John Macdonald was a lawyer, politician, and prominent figure in Winnipeg society. He lived in the house with his family until his death in 1929.

The house remained in the Macdonald family until the 1960s. In 1970, it was designated a National Historic Site of Canada and opened to the public as a museum.

Architecture and Features:

Dalnavert is a High Victorian house, showcasing the architectural styles and decorative features popular during the period. The exterior features intricate detailing, including decorative woodwork, gables, and a prominent turret.
