Cressida (moon)

Cressida is an inner satellite of Uranus. It was discovered on January 9, 1986, from images taken by the Voyager 2 spacecraft. The moon is named after Cressida, a Trojan woman who is the tragic heroine of Shakespeare's play Troilus and Cressida.

Cressida is a small, dark object with an estimated diameter of about 80 kilometers (50 miles). It orbits Uranus at a distance of approximately 61,767 kilometers (38,381 miles), placing it between the orbits of Desdemona and Juliet. Its orbital period is about 0.46 days (approximately 11 hours).

Cressida is part of the Portia group of moons, which also includes Bianca, Desdemona, Juliet, Portia, Rosalind, Belinda, and Cupid. These moons have similar orbits and photometric properties. It is thought that they may have originated from the break-up of a larger moon.

Little is known about Cressida's surface features, as Voyager 2 only captured low-resolution images. It is presumed to be heavily cratered, like other small Uranian moons.

Cressida is predicted to eventually collide with Desdemona due to orbital perturbations. This event is not expected to occur for millions of years.
