Council of Ministers (Cuba)

The Council of Ministers of Cuba is the highest-ranking executive and administrative body of the government of Cuba. It is responsible for implementing the policies approved by the National Assembly of People's Power, the supreme legislative body of the Cuban state.

The Council of Ministers is composed of the President of Cuba (who also serves as its President), the First Vice President, the Vice Presidents, the Secretary, and the heads of the various ministries and other central state institutions. The President of Cuba is nominated by the National Assembly and elected by a simple majority vote. The President then proposes the other members of the Council of Ministers to the National Assembly, who must also approve them.

The Council of Ministers is accountable to the National Assembly and reports on its activities to the Assembly. It is responsible for a wide range of functions, including:

  • Directing the country's economic, social, and cultural development.
  • Administering the state's finances and budget.
  • Maintaining public order and national security.
  • Conducting foreign policy.
  • Enforcing the laws and regulations of the country.
