Cleveland Blues (National League)

The Cleveland Blues, also known as the Cleveland Bluebirds or simply Cleveland, were a Major League Baseball team that played in the National League from 1879 to 1884. The team was one of the original eight members of the National League when it was founded in 1876, but folded after its inaugural season. Re-entering the league in 1879, the Blues struggled throughout their existence, never achieving a winning record.

Their home ballpark was League Park, located in Cleveland, Ohio. The team's colors were, as the name suggests, predominantly blue. Notable players who played for the Blues included Jim McCormick and Bill Phillips.

The Blues experienced consistent financial difficulties which contributed to their on-field struggles and ultimately led to the team's disbandment after the 1884 season. The team's departure marked a period of absence for major league baseball in Cleveland before a new franchise, the Cleveland Spiders, joined the American Association in 1887 and later the National League. The Cleveland Blues franchise is not directly related to later baseball teams with the "Blues" moniker, such as those in the minor leagues.
