Cilfynydd

Cilfynydd is a village and community in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, South Wales. It is located north of Pontypridd and lies within the historic county of Glamorgan.

The name Cilfynydd is derived from the Welsh language, with "Cil" meaning "retreat" or "corner" and "Fynydd" meaning "mountain". Thus, Cilfynydd translates roughly to "corner of the mountain" or "retreat on the mountain".

Historically, the area was primarily agricultural but experienced significant growth with the development of coal mining in the 19th century. The village's landscape and economy were profoundly shaped by the coal industry, although this declined substantially in the latter half of the 20th century.
