Chrysler Valiant (SV1)
The Chrysler Valiant (SV1) was the first model of the Valiant automobile to be manufactured by Chrysler Australia. Introduced in January 1962, it was a significant departure from previous Chrysler Australia products, which had primarily been rebadged American models. The SV1 Valiant was based on the North American Valiant, but with modifications tailored to the Australian market.
Key features of the SV1 included its distinctive styling, often described as "S-Series" due to the curved side body styling. It was powered by a 225 cu in (3.7 L) Slant-6 engine, known for its reliability and durability. The SV1 was offered in sedan and wagon body styles.
The SV1 Valiant was marketed as a modern, economical, and practical car for Australian families. It proved to be a popular model, contributing to Chrysler Australia's growing presence in the local automotive market. It was succeeded by the Valiant (R-Series) in 1962.
