Christopher Nugent (Medal of Honor)
Christopher Nugent (born November 14, 1841, died August 5, 1914) was a United States soldier who received the Medal of Honor for his actions during the American Civil War. He served as a Sergeant in Company B of the 28th Massachusetts Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for extraordinary heroism displayed on December 13, 1862, at the Battle of Fredericksburg, Virginia. His citation reads that he voluntarily took command of his company after all the officers had been killed or wounded and gallantly led it forward. Nugent's actions at Fredericksburg helped to inspire his men and contributed to the Union effort during the battle. Following the war, he continued to be active in veterans' affairs and was a respected member of his community. He is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon, Pennsylvania.
