Central Command (India)
Central Command is one of the seven operational commands of the Indian Army. It is headquartered in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The command is responsible for military operations and maintaining security in a large portion of central India, encompassing states such as Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, and parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Its primary roles include:
- Maintaining Operational Preparedness: Ensuring its formations are ready to respond to any security challenges within its area of responsibility.
- Counter-Insurgency Operations: Conducting operations to counter insurgent groups and maintain law and order in affected regions.
- Disaster Relief: Providing aid and support to civil authorities during natural disasters and other emergencies.
- Border Management: Overseeing the management of specific sections of international borders, primarily with Nepal.
- Training: Conducting training exercises to enhance the capabilities of its troops.
The General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) is the head of the Central Command. The command's formations include various infantry divisions, armored brigades, and support units. It plays a crucial role in ensuring the overall security and stability of India's central region.
