Central Air Command (Sweden)
The Central Air Command (Swedish: Flygvapencentrum, FVC) was a Swedish Air Force command responsible for air defense, training, and development. Established in 1994, it unified several existing air force functions under a single command structure. The Central Air Command was responsible for operational command and control of Swedish air assets, as well as for the training of air force personnel. It also played a key role in the development and implementation of new air force tactics, technologies, and doctrines.
The Central Air Command encompassed various units and facilities, including air bases, training schools, and research and development centers. It reported directly to the Supreme Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces.
In 1998, the Central Air Command was reorganized and its responsibilities were partially transferred to other commands. Its training functions were integrated into the Air Force Training Centre (Luftstridsskolan, LSS), and its operational command responsibilities were largely assumed by other entities within the Swedish Armed Forces. The Central Air Command was ultimately disbanded in 1998, marking a significant shift in the organization of the Swedish Air Force.
