CBN (Australian TV station)
CBN was the original call sign for a television station broadcasting in the New South Wales regional area of Southern NSW and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). CBN-8, based in Canberra, began broadcasting on 3 June 1962. The "CBN" call sign stood for "Canberra Broadcasters New South Wales."
The station was an independent commercial broadcaster for many years.
CBN-8 became part of the Prime Television network in 1989, along with other regional stations such as NEN-9 and REN-9. As part of this affiliation, the station adopted the Prime Television branding.
In the modern era, while CBN-8 technically still exists as a call sign, it is rarely used in on-air promotions or station identification. The Prime7 (formerly Prime Television) branding is far more prevalent, and the station is generally identified as such. The station continues to serve the Canberra and Southern NSW region, broadcasting programming sourced from the Seven Network, along with local news and other content.
