Cáceres (Assembly of Extremadura constituency)
Cáceres is one of the three constituencies (Spanish: circunscripciones) of the Assembly of Extremadura, the regional legislature of the autonomous community of Extremadura, Spain. It elects deputies using a closed list proportional representation system. The constituency corresponds to the province of Cáceres. It is allocated a specific number of seats based on its population, as determined before each election. The number of seats allocated to Cáceres has varied slightly over time, reflecting population changes relative to the other provinces in Extremadura.
The electoral system uses the D'Hondt method to allocate seats proportionally. To gain representation in the Assembly, a party list must secure at least 5% of the valid votes cast within the constituency. Each party presents a list of candidates in order of preference, and seats are allocated to candidates according to their position on the list.
The constituency's geographical boundaries are identical to the administrative boundaries of the province of Cáceres. This ensures that all residents of the province are eligible to vote and be represented in the Assembly of Extremadura through this constituency. The results of elections in Cáceres, along with those of Badajoz and constitute the overall composition of the Extremadura Assembly, which in turn elects the President of Extremadura.
