Budelli
Budelli is a small island in the Maddalena archipelago, located off the coast of Sardinia, Italy. It is renowned for its Spiaggia Rosa (Pink Beach), a beach whose sand is characteristically colored pink due to microscopic fragments of corals, shells, and granite. The pink coloration comes from a combination of factors, notably the presence of Miniacina miniacea, a small marine organism with a pink shell that lives on seagrass and algae. Fragments of this organism, along with broken shells and coral, are ground down by waves and currents, contributing to the beach's distinctive hue.
Due to the fragile ecosystem of Spiaggia Rosa and the significant impact of tourism, access to the beach is strictly regulated. In the past, visitors were allowed to walk and collect sand, but this led to a rapid decline in the beach's pink coloration. Consequently, access to the beach itself is now prohibited to protect the unique environment. Visitors can only admire it from designated viewing points or boats.
Budelli is part of the Parco Nazionale Arcipelago di La Maddalena (La Maddalena Archipelago National Park), which aims to preserve the natural beauty and biodiversity of the area. The island's fragile ecosystem is constantly monitored, and ongoing conservation efforts are in place to ensure the long-term preservation of the Pink Beach and its unique characteristics. The island is uninhabited except for a caretaker, who helps to maintain the ecological balance and enforce the park's regulations.
