Bode (river)
The Bode is a river in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It is a left tributary of the Saale, and approximately 169 kilometers (105 miles) in length. Its source lies in the Harz mountains, near Braunlage.
The Bode flows through a picturesque gorge known as the Bode Gorge (Bodetal), a popular tourist destination. The river passes through several towns and villages, including Thale, Quedlinburg (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and Gröningen, before joining the Saale near Nienburg.
The Bode's drainage basin covers an area of around 3,300 square kilometers. The river is known for its relatively swift current and the dramatic landscapes it traverses, contributing to the area's natural beauty. The river's name is of uncertain origin.
