Black Bird (miniseries)

Black Bird is an American true crime psychological thriller limited series developed by Dennis Lehane, based on the 2010 autobiographical novel In With The Devil: A Fallen Hero, A Serial Killer, and A Dangerous Bargain by James Keene and Hillel Levin. The series premiered on Apple TV+ on July 8, 2022, and concluded on August 5, 2022, after six episodes.

The plot centers on James "Jimmy" Keene, a high school football star and son of a decorated police officer, who is sentenced to ten years in a minimum-security prison. He is offered a deal by the FBI: if he can elicit a confession from suspected serial killer Larry DeWayne Hall regarding the location of several missing girls, he will be released. Jimmy is transferred to a maximum-security prison for the criminally insane and must navigate the dangerous environment while befriending Hall to obtain the necessary information.

The series explores themes of redemption, guilt, and the complexities of human nature. It also highlights the psychological toll taken on those investigating and dealing with violent criminals.

The cast includes Taron Egerton as James "Jimmy" Keene, Paul Walter Hauser as Larry DeWayne Hall, Greg Kinnear as Brian Miller, Sepideh Moafi as Lauren McCauley, and Ray Liotta in his final television role as James "Big Jim" Keene.
