Bill Thompson (footballer, born 1940)
Bill Thompson (born 21 November 1940) is a former Scottish professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper.
Thompson began his career with Dundee, joining them in 1957. He made over 250 appearances for the club, most notably playing in their run to the semi-finals of the 1962-63 European Cup. He played in both legs of the semi-final against A.C. Milan.
In 1966, Thompson moved to Blackpool. He spent one season with the Seasiders, making 37 league appearances.
He then joined Barrow in 1967, where he was a regular member of the team. He was a key player in Barrow’s successful FA Cup run in 1967-68, which saw them reach the fifth round.
After leaving Barrow in 1970, Thompson played for non-league side Morecambe before retiring.
