Bill Hendley
Bill Hendley (born William Hendley) is an American politician and businessman from the state of North Carolina. He served as a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives for North Carolina's 11th congressional district from 1981 to 1983 and again from 1985 to 1987.
Hendley was born in Transylvania County, North Carolina. Prior to his political career, he was involved in the business sector, with interests in real estate and construction.
He first ran for Congress in 1980, defeating incumbent Democrat Lamar Gudger. He served one term before being defeated in 1982 by Democrat James McClure Clarke. Hendley subsequently regained the seat in 1984, defeating Clarke. He served one additional term before losing to Democrat David Price in 1986.
During his time in Congress, Hendley was generally considered a conservative Republican. His voting record reflected his stance on issues such as fiscal responsibility and limited government. He was actively involved in committee work related to the economy and infrastructure.
Since leaving Congress, Hendley has remained active in business and Republican politics within North Carolina. His political career is notable for his two separate periods of service in the House of Representatives, marked by election victories and defeats against different opponents.
